Velumani was born on 12 April 1959 in Appanaickenpatti Pudur, a village near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. He was raised in a financially poor family in which his father was a landless farmer and to support the family his mother sold buffalo \u200b\u200d\u200b\u200c\u200d\u200b\u200d\u200c\u200b\u200d\u200b\u200c\u200d\u200b\u200d\u200cmilk. Life was quite tough with less than \u20b950 a week for the whole family of six, and as the firstborn among his three brothers, he took up such works as plucking cotton to make some \u200b\u200d\u200b\u200c\u200d\u200b\u200d\u200c\u200b\u200d\u200b\u200c\u200d\u200b\u200d\u200cmoney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even though the situation was difficult, he chose education as his way out of the crisis. After making his mind up to alter his fate, he not only finished his schooling but also obtained a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Chemistry from Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science thereby he made the initial step for his future scientific and entrepreneurial \u200b\u200d\u200b\u200c\u200d\u200b\u200d\u200c\u200b\u200d\u200b\u200c\u200d\u200b\u200d\u200cjourney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Velumani’s<\/strong> Career<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After\u200b\u200d\u200b\u200c\u200d\u200b\u200d\u200c\u200b\u200d\u200b\u200c\u200d\u200b\u200d\u200c finishing his graduation in 1978, Dr Velumani was out of luck in terms of work for a long time and he finally got his first job at Gemini Capsules, a small pharmaceutical factory in Coimbatore, where he earned only \u20b9150 per month. He was there for four years until the day the company surprised him with its abrupt closure and he was left without a job. Instead of succumbing to defeat, he perceived this failure as his opportunity and went to Mumbai in 1982. He had an interview there and got a job as a Scientific Assistant in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), which was his first step into the scientific field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On top of his full-time job, he was still committed to his education and he earned a Master\u2019s degree in Biochemistry and later a Ph.D. in Thyroid Biochemistry from the University of Mumbai. His work at BARC and the Radiation Medicine Centre at Tata Memorial Hospital deeply involved him in laboratory practices, thyroid disorders, and diagnostic processes, and thus he silently envisioned the future of providing thyroid diagnostic services – easy and low-cost for the ordinary \u200b\u200d\u200b\u200c\u200d\u200b\u200d\u200c\u200b\u200d\u200b\u200c\u200d\u200b\u200d\u200cpeople.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
