Welcome to another summer edition of the Holly Dental Care blog!
If you live in the Holly, Michigan area, we’d love to see your smiling face in one of our chaire.
As a comprehensive dental center, you’ll love the convenience of having access to all the things we can do for you and your family under one roof.
Our preventive dentistry program includes cleanings, checkups, and educational platforms (like this oral health blog) that are aimed at keeping you on the good road in-between visits to our office (which should happen regularly).
Today, we want to talk about how to keep your mouth clean and your breath fresh.
If you’ve ever had to work closely with someone, or unexpectedly run into someone you love, and your breath was not ready for the occasion, then you know why this information is so important.
Besides those who have the occasional incidence of bad breath, we have treated lots of folks who suffer from a more intense condition called halitosis.
If you can relate, there is nothing to be ashamed about. It’s just one of those things. But the good news is that there is a lot you can do to improve your fate.
Keep reading, and then be sure to get in touch with any questions or to schedule your next appointment.
Do It Without Mints
We get it, it’s easy to grab a mint, cover up your breath problems, and go on with your day. The bad news is that most mints are loaded with sugar. And after the mint is gone, all that is left is a sugary residue that actually feeds the bacteria causing your breath problems. If you have to, chew on some sugar-free gum instead.
Drinking water like it is going out of style is the best thing you can do to stave off bad breath. Why? Because your saliva naturally eliminates the bacteria in your mouth responsible for the foul breath, but in order for saliva to be produced, you need to drink enough water. If you can get it with fluoride, that is even better!
Floss For Fun
Fighting bad breath is really a matter of battling bacteria. Besides using a toothbrush, flossing is a great weapon in this war. Try to floss twice a day or more to better eradicate bacteria from in-between your teeth and hard to reach areas of your mouth.
Your Tongue Matters
We have found that if you struggle with ongoing bad breath, it helps to take the time to scrape and brush your tongue twice a day.
