It’s that time again! When you walk through the aisles in the store, pencils, backpacks and folders are all on display and shoppers are saying, “Where did the summer go?” As you prepare to get your student back in school, we’ve put together a list of things to do to ensure that your child can put his best foot forward on the first day of school!
1) Get Your Fridge Ready
Pack your refrigerator with healthy snacks that will benefit not only the brain, but the smile! Fresh, crunchy fruits (like apples and pears) and vegetables (like carrots and sweet peppers) are great for the brain and the smile! Encourage your child to drink milk or fluoridated water to boost the tooth enamel.
2) Make a Schedule
Between practices and meetings and homework, you have your hands full. Set aside plenty of time each evening to practice good oral hygiene. Don’t rush flossing or brushing. Instead, show your child that this is something worthy of your limited time.
3) Get a Cleaning and Exam
Start the year off with a clean and healthy smile. We love seeing students come in this time of year because we know they’ll have an excited smile on the first day of school! If your child struggles with cavities, we might discuss dental sealants to add an extra layer of protection during their most susceptible years.
Getting ready for school is a busy season for parents, and saying goodbye to summer is difficult. Use these tips to help your child get off to a great start this school year.
