Technology in the Office Benefits You

  • February 17, 2015

You are aware of the ever increasing use of technology all around us. We see it popping up in the most unlikely places, yet it doesn’t take us long to embrace the new way of life, does it? Who doesn’t love having access to the entire world from a few touches of their smartphone?

Technology has made its way into the dentistry world as well. Here at Holly Dental Care, we are able to offer some of the latest tools to our patients. You benefit over and over as we make your care more comfortable, more efficient, and more patient-friendly!

Let us show you some of our latest advances that will be there to help you in your future appointments!

What it is
DIAGNOdent is a cavity detection system. The system itself uses lasers to detect cavities throughout your tooth that are not yet showing symptoms. In other words, these are the really tiny beginnings of cavities, but you benefit by knowing they are there!

How it Helps You
DIAGNOdent is extremely beneficial to you as the patient because we are able to take care of small problems before they become big, painful problems! It is much more comfortable to have a mini cavity filled than to have to worry about a big cavity taken care of at a later date.

What it is
We are seeing many cases of oral cancer around the country. It has always been a problem, but there are lots of new cases happening every day. The VELscope is a detection tool we use to identify suspicious areas in your mouth that could be signs of oral cancer. It is a special light that highlights these areas of your tissues so that we know where to look!

How it Helps You
Oral cancer is like any other form of cancer; the sooner we are able to detect a problem, the sooner we can treat it. VELscope gives us these insights earlier so that you have a higher chance of beating cancer and continuing a normal life!

Air Abrasion
What it is
If you’ve ever had a filling before, you are aware of drills traditionally used to to replace decay from your teeth. The sound and sensation has kept patients away from the office out of fear, but air abrasion makes the difference!

How it Helps You
Air abrasion is a new tool that allows us to do dentistry without the use of drills! There will be no sounds, no vibration, and rarely is an anesthetic required because there is little to no pain! Air abrasion ends the fear of having a cavity filled!

Intra-Oral Camera
What it is
An intra-oral camera is a small camera that looks a lot like a large pen. We use it to take high-quality images of your teeth and then save those images to our computer system. We also display the images on screens in the patient rooms during your appointment.

How it Helps You
An intra-oral camera allows you to become a more active participant in your dental care! You can actually see the problems we are seeing on the screen and make an informed decision about how to proceed. You might be used to a doctor telling you about a problem and how to fix it, but it makes all the difference to be able to see the problem yourself!

Technology is a fantastic way for you to learn about and better understand your oral health. Not only that, but it makes us much more efficient! We are able to catch problems much sooner, which means you get the care you need when you need it!

Contact us today to learn more about how technology can impact your oral health experience. We would love to hear from you soon!
