Coming to the dentist is not at the top of most patients’ lists. People are afraid of the dentist, or at very least uncomfortable. Sometimes it’s a fear of pain, but often it’s a fear of embarrassment, fear of the atmosphere, or fear that we will find something wrong. Whatever kind of fear is holding you back, let us help you set it aside so that you can get the dental care you need.
Everyone deserves a healthy smile, and if fear is standing in your way, we need to remove that fear. What happens is that fear creates a self-fulfilling cycle. The patient is afraid, so they come into the office expecting pain/embarrassment/discomfort, which makes them tense. That tension creates a bad experience, so the next time the patient needs to come back, he is even more afraid, even more tense, and has an even worse experience. You need to fight that cycle and see that modern sedation dentistry can make you completely comfortable!
Sedation Options for You
We offer the classic nitrous oxide gas for patients with minor anxieties or those undergoing a minor procedure. You might know it as laughing gas. Sometimes that isn’t enough, though. In those cases, we recommend an oral sedative. We will prescribe the sedative for you to take about an hour before your procedure. When you come in, you’ll already be relaxed. Your procedure will go smoothly, and we can get more work completed in a shorter amount of time! If that’s still not quite enough, we turn to IV sedation. IV sedation will make you completely unaware of what is going on around you so that you have no memory of your procedure. Depending on your preferences, we will recommend a sedation method. We always look into health concerns before prescribing a sedative, and we ask that you bring a friend or family member to drive you to and from your appointment if you are planning to use sedation.
