Putting off dental care, for any reason, is not just a bad idea, it’s downright unhealthy. The health of your teeth and gums have a direct relationship with your overall health. Something as simple as a cavity can become a serious problem, if it is left untreated. Tooth decay can lead to infection and infection can spread throughout your body to cause all sorts of health problems.
At Holly Dental Care, we know that people will stay away from the dentist for a variety of reason, some rational, but many are irrational. At our office in Holly, MI, we go out of our way to show you that a trip to the dentist can be pleasant and relaxing, while ultimately protecting your health.
Some people are nervous about seeing the dentist. Some are afraid. Some are absolutely terrified. Whether you experience mild dental anxiety or are completely phobic, Holly Dental Care has a sedation option that put your mind at ease.
Usually, dental fear comes from a previous bad experience, which makes sense. If you have had dental work done in a painful manner, then why should you think that any dental work wouldn’t be the same way? Sometimes the experience can come from a second hand source that gives you an outdated or unrealistic expectation about what goes on at the dentist.
Whether your fears are based on experience or rumor makes no difference if it is keeping you from our office. Let us help you put your fears aside, so that you can get the quality dental care you need to stay healthy.
Relieve Tension and Stress
Even if you are not afraid, or even anxious, about visiting the dentist, sedation dentistry may have benefits you have not considered. For one thing, tension is common when undergoing dental work. It may have nothing to do with fear or past experiences, just sitting still and holding your mouth open for a long period of time can cause you to tense up, especially in your shoulder and neck.
If you find yourself with a dull headache or sore muscles after dental work, this may be a result of tension, rather than the procedure itself. Tightening your muscles while in the dental chair can lead to pain later. Even sometime as simple as a dental exam or professional cleaning can cause pain if you don’t relax.
At our office, here in Holly, MI, we offer various forms of sedation to meet the level you need to stay comfortable and have a pleasant dental experience.
Nitrous Oxide, or “laughing gas”, is the perfect level of sedation for those with a low level of dental anxiety or just have trouble sitting still for a while. We will mix the gas with oxygen, and you will inhale a steady stream of sedative while we perform your procedure. We can control the amount of nitrous oxide you receive based on your need. You will be conscious and aware through the whole procedure, but the inhaled sedation will help you relax so that you don’t have to worry about the effects of tension after you leave our office.
If your level of anxiety is moderate high, you may need oral sedation. This is a prescription strength sedative pill that you will take a couple of hours before coming to our office. The sedative will put you in a deep state of relaxation, so you will be conscious and at least somewhat aware. You will most likely have little memory of the procedure, if any at all.
This type of sedation is heavy enough that it is unsafe for you to dry to or from our office, so be sure to arrange for a ride.
The highest level of sedation is IV sedation, sometimes called “sleep sedation”. This is for people who have a high level of fear and anxiety about going to the dentist. IV sedation will put you completely under. You will not be conscious or aware of anything. You will simply fall asleep, and when you wake up, the dental work is done.
Aside from alleviating pain and anxiety, IV sedation allows for multiple procedures to be completed in one sitting. As a result, you save time and money!
Holly Dental Care is one of the few offices that offers IV sedation, which is a testament to our commitment to a pleasant and pain free dental experience.
