In our previous post, we talked about making better choices at the grocery store to improve your family’s oral health. One thing we mentioned was to be aware of the kinds of beverages you select for your family to drink throughout the day. There’s always room for an exception here or there, but your primary beverage throughout any day should be water.
Yes, we know how difficult it is to convince yourself and your family to drink water when you are used to drinking something sweet. It is a difficult habit to break, but it is possible. You first need to realize that the sugar levels in juice, sports drinks, tea, and soda are very high, and if your teeth are bathed in that beverage all day, you are sure to see the negative consequences at your next exam.
Making Water a Drink of Choice
In order to convince yourself and your family to drink more water, you need to make water more appealing. We recommend adding slices of your favorite fruit, or sprigs of your favorite herb to boost the taste of water and make it a fun drink. You might want to invest in a quality water filter for your faucet, or even a special pitcher to make water readily available in the fridge. Find what works for your family, and enjoy the rewards!
Making the switch to water will take time. We recommend starting with one snack or meal a day, and then branching out to cover the entire day. You will feel a difference, and we will notice the changes when you come in for your next appointment. Contact us today to set up your next cleaning and exam. We can’t wait to hear how your water revolution is going!
