Finding Your Way Through A Dental Emergency
Welcome to the Holly Dental Care oral health blog! We are delighted that you found our online home. We hope to see you in-person sometime in our Holly, MI office.
As part of our continuing education efforts, today we wanted to talk a little bit about dental emergencies and how to set yourself up for the best possible outcomes when the least expected scenario unfolds before your eyes.
Dental emergencies can be challenging since many of us would have no idea what to do in those kinds of situations. This is different than regular medical emergencies in which we would know to call an ambulance or make our way to the emergency room of the nearest hospital. As you can imagine, dental emergencies seldom require that type of treatment. But they do require attention.
Usually, you will need to see a dentist as soon as possible. The trouble is that most dental offices are not open around the clock, so you will have to be prepared to handle your dental emergency until you can be seen by a professional.
A Dental Emergency Kit Will Come In Handy
Do you have a first-aid kit in your home or car? We thought so. But will you have what you need in the event of a dental emergency? It doesn’t take a lot to be ready, and you probably already have most of the items we’d suggest for your kit.
Everyone has this on-hand, right? For a toothache or pain in your jaw, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever to ease your discomfort until you can make it over to the office.
It may not have occurred to you, but this one is real important. You should definitely keep a small, sealable container in your dental emergency kit.
This would be useful if you suffer a broken or knocked-out tooth.
Sometimes it can get bloody. And gauze can help stop the bleeding in the event of a knocked-out tooth or injury to your gums.
For broken appliances, denture adhesive is a great way to temporarily fix the appliance until you can get to our dental office for a more permanent repair.
