Dental Implants Can Work For You

  • February 21, 2015

Losing an adult tooth is nothing like losing a baby tooth. When you were a kid, everyone celebrated your gaps in your smile. As an adult, people are more likely to give you a negative look! And you can be sure that the tooth fairy won’t be leaving any money under your pillow!

Here at Holly Dental, we understand losing adult teeth. There is a lot to consider, but we are here to help you navigate the entire process so that you end up maintaining the smile of your dreams!

Let’s just right in with reasons to replace your missing tooth!

Reasons to Replace Your Tooth

Function
Every tooth in your mouth is important. The only teeth that don’t need to be replaced are your wisdom teeth. Every other tooth plays a role in the way you chew and speak. We see patients all the time who are only using one side of their mouth to chew because they can’t get over the discomfort of chewing with a gap!

Confidence
Even beyond the issue of function is the issue of confidence. When you are missing a tooth (or several teeth), you just don’t feel confident! This is especially true if you are missing a tooth near the front of your smile. When you don’t feel confident, you don’t really feel like interacting with the rest of the world!

Replacing a Single or Few Teeth

Regardless of how many teeth you need to replace, the process looks much the same. We begin with the implant procedure and then allow your mouth to heal through a process called osseointegration.

Implant Procedure
The implant procedure is considered oral surgery. We begin by taking some great images of your jawbone so that we know exactly where to place your implant. During the procedure itself, we will make sure you are comfortable with numbing solution, sedation, and anything else from our comfort menu that will ensure your absolute relaxation! Once you are relaxed, we will place the implant carefully through your gums and into your jawbone.

Osseointegration
After the implant is placed, we allow your jaw to heal for a few months. During this time, a process called osseointegration is happening. Osseointegration is the process of your bone fusing with your titanium implant to create a solid and secure bond that will last for the rest of your life!

Using Implants to Secure Your Dentures

Implants are great for more than just replacing missing teeth. You can also secure your dentures with implants! That’s right. You don’t have to deal with slippery, ill-fitting dentures any longer! Dental implants can be placed that will hold your entire smile in place while you eat, talk, and live with your dentures!

Bone Density Doesn’t Matter
You may have looked into this option before and been told that your bone density would not support traditional implants. That could be very true, but that doesn’t mean that you cannot have an implant solution for your dentures. Let us introduce you to mini implants!

Mini Implants
Mini dental implants are a fantastic option for patients who want an implant solution but cannot wear traditional implants. The mini implants are about half the width of traditional implants, which allows most patients to benefit! They heal quicker and are a little bit easier to place, but they still maintain great stability for your entire set of dentures!

One Appointment
The best thing about mini implants is that we can place them in one single appointment! You can walk in one morning, have your implants placed and your dentures fitted with connecting pieces. By the afternoon, you could be enjoying lunch out with friends! You will feel an IMMEDIATE improvement in comfort and stability that you can’t wait to show off!

Do you have a smile problem that could be solved by dental implants? You might be surprised!
