A Smile's Back to School Checklist, Part 2

  • August 5, 2015

In our previous post, we discussed some things you can do to help your child get their smile ready for the new school year. We discussed the importance of helping your child prepare with new hygiene tools and all the things she needs to take care of her smile at home.

There is another side to this situation, though. You can’t do everything from home! Your child also needs to build a strong relationship with the dentist. This will benefit you and your child now, but it will also help in the future. Your child is much more likely to maintain a healthy relationship with the dentist if it is built on trust early in life!

You want your child to have a habit of seeing the dentist every six months so that when your child becomes an adult, they will maintain that habit. You can begin by making the back to school cleaning a yearly habit!

A Trip to the Dentist

A trip to the dentist is great way to get started for the school year. It will give your child’s smile the boost that it needs to take on the classroom this fall! When you bring your little one in for an appointment, you can expect us to complete the following procedures during your time at the office.

Cleaning – Your child’s teeth need a good, complete cleaning every six months. We will remove the plaque and tartar buildup and check for signs of a gum infection. We will also do a fluoride treatment to help strengthen your child’s teeth.

Exam – Taking a look at those teeth is really important. Decay can happen quickly, so we want to catch it as soon as we can and take care of the problem. We will also take a look to be sure the baby teeth are coming in as they should.

X-rays – Taking X-rays of your child’s teeth is really important. We need to have a good idea of how the baby teeth are growing. We can also check the roots of your child’s teeth to check for signs of damage or injury that you might not be aware of.

Needed Dental Work

It’s not uncommon for children to need dental work. By the time they graduate high school, over 75% of students will have had at least one filling. The important thing is that you take care of the dental work in a dental office where your child is comfortable. At Holly Dental Care, we believe we have that office!

Relaxing Environment – Kids come into our office and know that they are in good hands. They feel relaxed and at ease because we like to have fun in our office! We love to listen to kids and have conversations with them, which makes kids feel at ease!

Kid-Friendly Staff – Our entire staff is on board when the kids come through the doors. We all like to have a good time together, and kids make our day that much more fun! Our staff is great with kids, which is one reason why they love to come see us!

Quality Dental Work – You want to take your child to a dental office that knows what they’re doing. If your child needs dental work, make sure it’s done right. You want that work to last as long as possible!

Finding a dental office that is great for your kids can be a chore, but at Holly Dental Care, you will find a dental office that is great for the entire family. We have options that can help each and every member of your family when their smile is in need.
